Dr. Richard Kamidza

Dr. Richard Kamidza is a Zimbabwean national based in Durban, South Africa. He holds a PhD in development studies from the University of KwaZulu Natal South Africa, adding to an MA in Policy Studies from Southern African Regional Institute for Policy Studies (SAPES).

He has more than 20 years familiarity and working experience of Regional Economic Integration processes in Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA), East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) regions and Southern African Customs Union. He also has more than 14 years of experience in the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) negotiations between the European Union (EU), and the East and Southern Africa (ESA), EAC and SADC configurations: researching, building stakeholders’ technical capacity, and convening and/or participating in policy dialogue sessions on issues not only of EPAs, but also of World Trade Organization (WTO), two generations of Yaounde Convention, four generations of Lomé Convention and the Cotonou Agreement.

He has wide experience in monitoring and evaluating donor-funded regional (COMESA and SADC) trade and economic integration programmes/ projects; and identification and formulation of donor-funded country trade and interim-EPA (i-EPA) implementation projects. Not to be forgotten are two years of technical advisory services through policy briefs to the SADC Deputy Executive Secretary-Regional Integration (DES-RI) and SADC Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (TIFI) Director; facilitation during EPA negotiations between the EU and SADC-EPA countries; building capacities of SADC Member States’ trade-focused stakeholders; and managing Commonwealth Secretariat project’s financial and human resources.
