5th Edition
AFRODAD MEDIA INITIATIVE (AFROMedi V)
Media's role in advancing Africa's position on reparative justice
AFRODAD Launched the AFRODAD Media Initiative (AFROMEDI) in 2021; to promote factual, effective, and consistent reporting on debt and development issues. AFROMEDI builds media’s reporting capacity on debt and related issues; to shape the public debate and put pressure on policymakers to answer to the call of transparency, accountability, and good governance.
This year African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) and the African Monitor will host the 5th edition of the AFRODAD Media Initiative (AFROMedI V) to enhance the capacity of journalists to report on debt and reparative justice,
AFROMedI V will offer increased capacity to report on debt and reparative justice, through humanising the issues, focusing on data-driven reporting, offering historical context of injustice and proffering policy solutions from interviews with technical persons in the civil society space.
AFROMedI V will strategically link the AU’s theme to current global processes and campaigns such as Financing for Development, South Africa’s presidency of the G20, the Stop the Bleeding campaign and the feminist debt justice.
Equip journalists to connect reparations with global development processes, enhancing their reporting.
Highlight the urgent need for reform in global financial institutions and their operating models.
Guide journalists in reporting on significant events and movements, especially the upcoming elections in 2025.
Create a sustainable platform for ongoing dialogue and collaboration beyond the event.
