Afshin Nazir [LL.B (Hons), KSL (Dip)] is a dedicated legal professional with a passion for research and a commitment to justice. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and works as the Legal Analysis and Advocacy Policy Officer within the Policy Department at the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD).

Afshin's journey into the legal realm began with a strong focus on legal research. She spent two formative years as a Researcher at the Committee on Fiscal Studies at the University of Nairobi, delving into the intricate nuances of inter alia fiscal policy, debt, environmental taxation and human rights. Transitioning into legal practice, Afshin embarked on a journey as an Advocate Trainee at the renowned and award-winning TripleOKLaw Advocates, where she continued to leverage her strong background in legal research. Her dedication and proficiency were acknowledged with the award for Best Advocate Trainee. Her areas of focus included dispute resolution, real estate and banking, technology and the law, as well as corporate and commercial law. This multifaceted experience equipped Afshin with a comprehensive skill set and a nuanced perspective on legal matters.

Beyond her professional engagements, Afshin has made significant contributions to legal scholarship. She has authored insightful pieces on pressing issues such as debt, climate change, climate finance, human rights, tax, and illicit financial flows. Her work has been published by esteemed institutions such as the Pretoria University Law Press, University of Nairobi, and Afronomics law, among others, reflecting her expertise and thought leadership in the field.

Outside of her legal pursuits, Afshin dedicates her free time to meaningful research endeavours. Currently, she is immersed in a research project exploring the intersection of debt for nature swaps and environmental taxation with the International Centre for Tax and Development, reflecting her commitment to leveraging legal mechanisms for environmental conservation and sustainability. With a steadfast dedication to the pursuit of justice and a track record of excellence in both academia and practice, Afshin Nazir continues to make a positive impact in the legal landscape of Kenya and beyond.
