OBJECTIVES

The conference is providing an inclusive platform for discussion between government actors, academics, civil society organizations and parliamentarians about Tunisia's debt situation and introduce the notion of debt management in the public debate. It aims to question the current legal mechanisms of accountability in debt contraction in Tunisia, a necessary discussion for the emergence of a shared vision for a national debt management strategy.

More specifically, the conference will aim to:

  • Provide a policy space for stakeholders to engage in policy discussions regarding public debt management
  • Place the Tunisian case study in its regional (African) and global (Global South) context with regards to teh overhaling debt crisis, as well as the emerging policy attempts to handle it
  • Create a forum to enable stakeholder to start building common understanding and positions for a fair and transparent mechanism for managing public debt in Tunisia
