Equipped with a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe, specialising in the intricacies of development economics, Gwata brings a keen eye to the challenges and opportunities facing African economies. His academic foundation began with a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Economics, also from the University of Zimbabwe, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to the field.
In 2024, Mr. Gwata embarked on a new chapter at AFRODAD, joining their policy and advocacy team under the Sovereign Debt Portfolio. This experience has provided him with an invaluable platform to delve deeper into the complexities of debt and its far-reaching consequences for African economies.
Recognised as an astute economist and accomplished writer, Gwata possesses a remarkable proficiency in wielding econometric statistical software. This expertise, coupled with his strong foundation in data analysis and economic research methodologies, allows him to translate complex economic data into actionable insights for policy analysis and advocacy.
Prior to joining AFRODAD, Gwata honed his skills as an economist at the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI). He also served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe's Department of Economics, where he undoubtedly ignited a passion for the subject in countless students.
