The brief aims to establish a political economy framework for analysing Africa’s historical experiences with slavery, colonialism, and neocolonialism, emphasizing the advocacy for debt justice through reparations. It will highlight contemporary injustices resulting from Africa's subjugation to external forces and examine how the imbalanced Global Financial Architecture has led to debt injustice on the continent. The brief will articulate the moral, legal, and ethical foundations for debt justice through reparations, referencing international precedents of reparative justice and aligning with human rights principles. Additionally, it will provide a framework of policy recommendations for achieving sustainable debt justice through reparations, including necessary reforms in global financial, economic, and political systems, as well as institutional reforms, cultural restoration, capacity building, and technological transfer. |
