Policy & Advocacy - Legal Analysis (LAAD)

Rachel Mwendwa is a young legal professional, with roots in Kenya and Botswana. Rachel pursued her formative education in Botswana and moved to Kenya for university. Rachel is a graduate of the University of Nairobi (LLB Honours) and the Kenya School of law (Post graduate Diploma in Law). While at the University of Nairobi, she served as President of the Moot Court Society and Vice President of the Student Organisation on Law and Diplomacy (SOLAD). She is admitted to the bar in Kenya. 
Rachel has a key interest in international law, Human rights and international development. She has a keen interest in amplifying voices of youth in the Global South in international development. In her previous role, she served as a Legal Fellow at the International Lawyers Project where she worked in Governance and Accountability. Prior to this, she has worked in various law firms in Nairobi and served as an Undergraduate Researcher for the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health. 
Rachel's notable achievements include: member of the winning team of the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition in 2019; Winner of the World Bank Law Justice Development Week Student Contest for Development Solutions 2019; Participant in the ICC Moot 2023 in Den Haag Netherlands; and Recipient of the Irish Centre for Human Rights- Megan Fairlie Scholarship for the Summer School on the International Criminal Court 2024. 


Outside of her legal pursuits, Rachel follows poetry slams and loves nature trails.
