Earlier this year, the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) commissioned a briefing paper on assessing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on adherence to the principles of development effectiveness. The paper has been completed and AFRODAD is hosting a webinar titled ‘Assessment of Development Effectiveness of Covid-19 Recovery Interventions in Africa’ on Wednesday 26th October 2022 from 11.00- 12.15 Harare, Pretoria Time to discuss finding and recommendations of the brief. Some objectives of the webinar include:

  • Identify and analyse the different financial flows and assistance initiatives by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD donors to Africa to finance Covid-19 recovery efforts.
  • Examine the extent to which commitment pledge to 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) of aid flows and initiatives adheres to the principles of development effectiveness in Africa.
  • Discuss the possible debt implications of these initiatives.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of current flows and initiatives to enable African countries cope with the exigencies of covid-19 and economic recovery.
  • Explore policy solutions to enhance development effectiveness in Africa within the context of the covid-19 pandemic

Once the webinar is validated, the briefing paper will be finalised to capture input from webinar participants, and it will be widely shared thereafter.
