AFRODAD AND TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL-ZIMBABWE PARTNER TO EMPOWER NEXT GENERATION OF ECONOMIC JUSTICE CHAMPIONS
[Harare, Zimbabwe]-14th May 2024 – The African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) and Transparency International-Zimbabwe (TI-Z) today announced a partnership in solidarity of their joint efforts towards economic and social justice in the continent.
The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of understanding, establishes a unique intern exchange program between the two organisations, to broaden the knowledge and skills of young and upcoming economic and social justice advocates, with the collective aim of empowering the next generation of “Africa Rule Makers!”
In welcoming the partnership, AFRODAD’s Executive Director, Jason Rosario Braganza said, “This MOU signifies a long-standing working relationship with Transparency International-Zimbabwe collaborating in influencing policy change that hinges on inclusive economic growth and sustainable development for the continent at a time when debt burdens continue to strangle African economies and its development. In Zimbabwe, where our origins are, makes this partnership more meaningful in deepening our collaboration at a time when the Government of Zimbabwe is working on a Debt Arrears Clearance Programme. By joining forces with Transparency International-Zimbabwe, we aim to equip young African minds with knowledge and skills to link debt within the broader economic justice movement and understand the symbiotic relationship between debt justice and governance.”
Tafadzwa Chikumbu, Executive Director at Transparency International-Zimbabwe, expressed his gratitude for the partnership. “We are deeply grateful AFRODAD’s support. AFRODAD’s internship programme to TI-Z enables the Chapter to expand its work and achieve a greater impact in our country and the constituency that we serve. This collaboration is coming at a critical time when the country is working on a Debt Arrears Clearance Framework for Zimbabwe and both institutions are actively involved where AFRODAD is contributing to the Economic Working Group and TI-Z is part of the Governance Working Group providing technical support on reducing the debilitating impacts of corruption on the Zimbabwean economy.”
The partnership is a meaningful step forward in fostering a future generation of African leaders committed to economic justice and good governance.
